Brad Fitzpatrick told me about his plan at Foo Camp, and finally he's announced permission to add Perl support to Google's App Engine. The project will require assistance from interested members of the Perl community, ultimately producing a security-restricted version of Perl. (For a good idea of core changes, see Sys::Protect, which uses the ppcode swap technique demonstrated in Perl Hacks #82.)
See the perl-appengine project on Google code for more details.
(Don't worry; the Parrot hackers are paying very close attention.)
